June 8th 2014 was a beautiful sunny day. It was the day 11 of us got up early to walk for a cause. The cause is Betty’s run for ALS in memory of Ernie Mlynczak.
For those of you who didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Ernie, he was the branch manager previously at Calgary Foothills. He had been diagnosed with Bulbar Palsy, which is a form of ALS only 18 months before he passed away on April 4, 2014.
His wife Kathy and daughter Megan was at the event to greet us with flowers to say thank you for participating in his honour. Thanks to our generous sponsors, Team Ernie raised $1590. Overall the event raised $414,188 for ALS research and improving the quality of life for Canadians living with ALS.
